The team made the announcement on Tuesday, two days after the Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in the Super Bowl.

O'Brien also worked with Bill Belichick with the Cleveland Browns. The Patriots coach praised O'Brien and said he deserved to go out as an NFL champion.

He will remain with the organization in an unspecified capacity.
