Seahawks' Baldwin: 'We're awful on third down right now'

Doug Baldwin did not take much satisfaction from the Seattle Seahawks breaking into the win column with a shutout of the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

That's because the Seahawks' No. 1 wide receiver realizes the 26-0 score against the winless Bears was hardly indicative of an offensive clinic. Seattle scored just one offensive touchdown and continued to struggle to keep drives alive.

"We’re not as efficient as we need to be," Baldwin told reporters Tuesday. "We are not moving the ball consistently. We have a lot of mental errors and mental mistakes that we need to correct. And we’re awful on third down right now."

To accentuate the Seahawks' third-down woes, Baldwin pointed to the team's failure to convert on a pair of third-and-one situations, with running back Marshawn Lynch getting stuffed twice before leaving with a hamstring injury.

Overall, Seattle is 16 of 44 on third down and it has scored touchdowns on four of 31 drives - tied for the fewest in the league with Chicago and the St. Louis Rams.

"We just want to be more consistent," Baldwin said. "I think that’s the general message that we’re all preaching and receiving right now, is that we need to be more consistent."
