Seahawks GM on Richard Sherman trade rumor: 'We listen'

Published Mar. 29, 2017 8:44 a.m. ET

There was a report recently that the Seattle Seahawks would be open to trading Richard Sherman if the right deal came their way. It seemed like a crazy idea to think the Seahawks would trade arguably their best defensive player and one of the NFL's top cornerbacks.

It may not be as ludicrous as it first seemed, though. The Seahawks are at least listening to offers, which is certainly unexpected.

"I mean, we listen," general manager John Schneider said, via ESPN. "We listen to everything you would think. We're in a lot of stuff. We try to pride ourselves on that. I think I've told you guys before we walk away from 98 percent of the deals that we're involved with or talking about.

"But at least we know that we've knocked down their door, we've gone in there and checked it out. We're not just going to assume. We always just have to constantly be thinking about the organization and how we're going to move it forward."

The original report came from Mike Lombardi of The Ringer, who said the Seahawks would trade Sherman for “the right deal.” What exactly that constitutes is unknown, considering how valuable Sherman is to Seattle’s defense.

Sherman, for one, laughed at the idea of being dealt when the report surfaced.

"It’s funny to me,” he said. “But sometimes people need to see you gone to realize what you had. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. But I don’t let things like that bother me. The chips will fall how they’re supposed to."
