Source: Browns eye ex-NFL vet Steve Walsh for QB coach position
The Cleveland Browns are considering a former first-round quarterback to work with their first-round quarterback Johnny Manziel.
A source told FOX Sports that Steve Walsh will be interviewing Saturday with the Browns for their vacancy at quarterbacks coach.
A first-round pick in the NFL's 1989 supplemental draft, Walsh enjoyed an 11-year playing career with six different teams before retiring after the 1999 season. Walsh has spent the past six seasons coaching high school football (Cardinal Newman) in West Palm Beach, Fla. During that time, Walsh declined several chances to pursue coaching opportunities at higher levels.
The Browns are seeking a new quarterbacks coach after Dowell Loggains was fired after the 2014 season. Cleveland hired a new offensive coordinator this week to replace Kyle Shanahan in John DeFilippo, who was Oakland's quarterbacks coach. Both moves were first reported by FOX Sports.
