Source: Bucs QB McCown likely out 'several weeks' with thumb injury

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be without the services of starting quarterback Josh McCown for an extended period of time.

A source told FOX Sports that McCown will undergo a second test on the thumb he injured during Thursday night's 56-14 loss to Atlanta. McCown is likely to miss "several weeks" while recovering, the source said.

McCown was hurt when banging his thumb on the face mask of Falcons cornerback Robert McClain while following through on a pass. McCown was replaced by Mike Glennon, who was Tampa Bay's starter in 2013.

McCown signed a two-year, $10 million contract with Tampa Bay in the offseason after completing 13 touchdowns and one interception last season when replacing injured starter Chicago's Jay Cutler. Like the Buccaneers (0-2) as a whole, McCown has struggled this season. McCown is currently tied for the NFL lead in interceptions with four.

Depending on results of the upcoming MRI exam, McCown is expected to miss at least Tampa Bay's next game on September 28 at Pittsburgh.
