Former Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton has a pre-draft visit scheduled with the Detroit Lions next week, a source told FOXSports.com.

The Lions currently own the No. 23 overall pick and would likely need to move up to pick Shelton. Shelton was rated No. 8 overall on FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Joel Klatt's big board.

After allowing defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley to walk in free agency, the Lions have beefed up the interior of the defensive line.

The Lions sent a fourth and a fifth-round pick for defensive tackle Haloti Ngata before the new league year began. Shortly after, the Lions signed restricted free agent Tyrunn Walker to a one-year deal worth $1.75 million.

Shelton, who is widely considered to be a top-10 talent, has also met privately with the Cleveland Browns.

Shelton led the nation with five fumble recoveries in 2014 and had 16 tackles for loss.

Finishing second on the team with 93 tackles, the 6-foot-2, 339-pound space eater was a standout at his year's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
