Source: Vontaze Burfict has three-game suspension upheld
Vontaze Burfict won't be around until Week 4 in 2016.
The Cincinnati Bengals linebacker had his three-game suspension upheld on Thursday, FS1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo has confirmed. Burfict's appeal was heard by Derrick Brooks, the NFL-NFLPA jointly appointed appeals officer.
Burfict was hit with this suspension in January for repeated violations of player-safety rules. The fourth-year player had been fined four times during the 2015 regular season for violations, but things came to a head during the Bengals' AFC Wild-Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The NFL ruled that Burfict should have avoided a hit on Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown that gave the latter a concussion. The hit drew a penalty and helped set Pittsburgh up for a game-winning field goal just seconds later.
