Steelers announce Ben Roethlisberger is officially out vs. the Patriots
One of the most highly anticipated games of the 2016 season will have a drastically different feel when it kicks off on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to host the New England Patriots this week, but they’ll do so without their starting quarterback. Ben Roethlisberger has officially been ruled out for Week 8, which coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday.
The Steelers still don’t have a timetable for Roethlisberger’s return.
Roethlisberger missed one series of Sunday's loss to the Dolphins with a knee injury, which was declared a torn meniscus. He underwent surgery Monday.
With Big Ben out, the Steelers will turn to Landry Jones as the starter. He filled in for Roethlisberger briefly the past two years, completing 57.1 percent of his passes for 513 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.
Given his lack of experience, the Steelers figure to ride running back Le’Veon Bell fairly often against the Patriots. He was spectacular in the four games that Roethlisberger missed last season, averaging 112 yards per game over that span.
