Steelers' Golson gets spotlight from The MMQB's Peter King

For the Steelers to compete in the AFC North this season, they're going to need at least a few of their young defenders to step up and make plays.

According to Peter King of The MMQB, rookie cornerback Senquez Golson will be one of those players. While Golson was a second-round pick, his selection is a bit curious. He's undersized, and he'll likely enter the season as the No. 4 corner at best behind William Gay, Cortez Allen, and Antwon Blake.

The undersized Golson had a third- or fourth-round grade entering the draft despite leading the SEC with 10 interceptions last season. Still, King thinks Golson will get an opportunity to show what he can do, and sooner rather than later:

If Golson can flash some early playmaking ability, he has a chance to leapfrom Allen, who is coming off a terribly disappointing 2014 on the heels of a shiny new contract. Blake came up big down the stretch last season when the battered Steelers secondary was getting shredded by opposing offenses.

Speaking of disappointing seasons, last year's No. 15 overall pick Ryan Shazier might have been a better choice for King's spotlight. He'll likely have as big an impact as any young player on the defense as a starting middle linebacker.
