Steelers rookie CB Golson undergoes shoulder surgery

Published Aug. 21, 2015 1:54 p.m. ET

The rookie season of Steelers second-round pick Senquez Golson may be in jeopardy after the corner underwent surgery on his shoulder Friday.

Golson, who has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list since the start of training camp, isn't even exactly sure when the injury occurred. He speculated earlier this month that his rookie season would be lost if he went under the knife, a proposition head coach Mike Tomlin is not yet willing to concede.

"Obviously, we will do what is appropriate after visiting with the surgeon and things post-op," Tomlin said before practice Friday, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I don't want to speculate until I visit with the doctors."

The Steelers had already acquired Brandon Boykin from the Eagles earlier this month to help cushion the loss of Golson. Fourth-round pick Doran Grant will likely now get an increased opportunity for playing time as well.
