Stefon Diggs closing in on rare Minnesota Vikings receiving milestone

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t had a wide receiver like Stefon Diggs in a long time, and if he can reach a big milestone, he will join some great company.

Through 14 weeks of the NFL season, Stefon Diggs has been the primary target for quarterback Sam Bradford. However, the wide receiver could join some pretty elite company if he can reach 1,000 yards on the season.

After the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Diggs sits at 806 receiving yards, needing only 194 to reach the milestone. With three more games to play in the regular season, this looks like a very attainable goal.

Stefon Diggs would need to average 64 2/3 yards per game to reach that mark. Although he has failed to reach that average number in his last 3 games, all it would take is one big performance to put him right on track.

Thankfully, the next three weeks have the Vikings playing some pretty generous units. The Colts are 28th in the league giving up yards in the pass game (273). The Packers are 18th at 254 yards per game. And the Vikings will finish their regular season against the Bears, who are the best of the 3 allowing only 220 per game (6th).

The last Vikings pass catcher to reach 1,000 yards was Sidney Rice, who was on the receiving end of throws from the gunslinger Brett Favre during the 2009 season. That means that six season have passed without having a receiver break that mark.

Along with Rice, there are some pretty impressive names in the 1,000 yard receiving club for the Vikings. Here are the rest of the players to have that honor:

While the Minnesota Vikings hopeful march to the playoffs should be the top priority for fans going forward during the 2016 season, it will be fun to see if Stefon Diggs can break the trend of not having a 1,000 yard receiver and possibly bring back the days of having a top receiver in the league.
