After sitting out a year, Sean McGrath is back in the NFL.

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts announced the signing of the veteran tight end to a free agent deal

The 6-foot-5, 247-pound McGrath played in 16 games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013, with nine starts. McGrath made 26 catches for 302 yards and two touchdowns that season and appeared in Kansas City's playoff game.

According to Pro Football talk, McGrath failed to report for training camp last season, electing to retire to deal with a personal matter. He spent all of 2014 on the Chiefs' Reserve/Did Not Report before being reinstated and waived by the team in May.

McGrath was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Henderson State.  He spent part of his rookie year on Seattle's practice squad before being promoted to the active roster for the final two games of the regular season and two playoff games.

The 27-year-old will provide depth at tight end for the Colts behind Coby Fleener and Dwyane Allen.

To make room for McGrath, the Colts waived rookie tight end Jean Sifrin.
