Texans experimenting with new role for OL Kendall Lamm
Rookie offensive lineman Kendall Lamm found himself in a new role during the Texans' 24-6 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
With tight end Garrett Graham inactive, the Texans utilized the offensive tackle as a blocking tight end against the Saints. An undrafted rookie free agent from Appalachian State, Lamm played 16 snaps at tight end.
Lamm's contribution came as part of a big game for Houston's tight ends. Ryan Griffin caught four passes for a team-high 72 yards and a touchdown, while C.J. Fiedorowicz had two receptions for 20 yards.
Houston head coach Bill O'Brien said he was pleased with the play of his tight ends, including his newest one.
"We put Kendall Lamm in there, that helps us, primarily with blocking,” O’Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle. “We’re not really looking forward to seeing Kendall in pass routes any time soon, but I think it’s definitely an improved position. It has to continue that way. That’s a position that can really be an important part of your offense, as long as they’re playing well.”
Lamm has appeared in 10 games for the Texans this season, including two starts along the offensive line.
