Texans name George Godsey offensive coordinator
After going without an offensive coordinator in 2014, Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has tabbed George Godsey to fill the position.
Godsey served as Houston's quarterbacks coach last season.
"I just thought he did a heck of a job last year," O'Brien said, according to the team's official website. "Did a really good job of dealing with all the different things that came up during the year and he deserves this opportunity.”
Godsey played for O'Brien at Georgia Tech and coached alongside him with New England Patriots in 2011 before rejoining him in Houston.
O'Brien stressed that Godsey's responsibilities are largely unchanged, despite the promotion.
"It’s really not too much different then what he did last year, it’s just his got the title,” O'Brien said.
As offensive coordinator, Godsey will continue to work with Houston's quarterbacks. He figures to play a central role in determining whether Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett starts Week 1.
