Texans players call out 'all the fans who left' before remarkable comeback
The first three-and-half quarters weren't pretty, but the Houston Texans found their offense with enough time left to turn things around for about half of their home crowd to enjoy.
Courtesy WISH-TV's Anthony Calhoun, this is what the NRG Stadium crowd looked liked late in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts:
Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler and the offense struggled badly early, collecting just five total yards on their first three drives as Osweiler entered halftime just 7-of-17 passing for 64 yards. But Houston found a rhythm late as Osweiler led a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, which the QB followed with three completions and a 26-yard game-tying touchdown pass to tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz with 49 seconds left after a Colts' three-and-out.
“For all the fans who left, I hope their brisket turned out OK, they had to go home and check it,” said Texans nose tackle Vince Wilfork, via CBS Houston. “It sucks, but it is what it is. At the end of the day we play for the guys that are in (the locker room) and the true fans, so to look up in the fourth quarter and still have a shot in the game and see half of the stadium empty it was surprising. I never encountered that before.”
Indeed, around Houston on Monday there will be 70,000 true fans who witnessed every single play of that comeback.
After forcing overtime at 23-23, the Texans' Nick Novak redeemed himself for an extra-point miss earlier in the game with a 33-yard game-winning field goal.
"A lot of fans tonight missed a terrific performance," Osweiler said. "I hope they learned tonight this team is never going to quit fighting."
