Texans safety Demps seals upset of Bengals with forced fumble
Houston safety Quintin Demps' forced fumble with less than a minute to go helped clinch the Texans' 10-6 upset of the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday.
With the Bengals facing a fourth-and-six situation at the Houston 33-yard line with 50 seconds to go, Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton completed a 10-yard pass to wide receiver A.J. Green. Texans rookie cornerback Kevin Johnson tackled Green, while Demps came in to jar the ball lose.
Demps was able to recover the fumble, allowing the Texans to run out the clock for the win.
“I knew it was fourth down, we all knew the game was on the line right there,” Demps said, per the Houston Chronicle. “I did my job and did what I was supposed to do. I think we do a good job during the week of practicing getting the ball out, second man in.
“I was focused on that when I broke and hit the ball out and I hit it out and I recovered it. We practice it all the time. I just trusted my instincts and knocked it out.”
With the win, the Texans improved to 4-5 and moved into a first-place tie with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South
