Texans vs. Jaguars Prediction
Will the Texans (7-6) make it two in a row as they take on the Jaguars (2-11) at home on Sunday? I give my prediction here:
Since Bill O’Brien took over after the 2013 season, he has not gone under .500 in a season and has not lost to the Jaguars. He is 5-0 against the AFC South rivals, and with another season down the drain for Jacksonville, the Texans look to get their third straight season sweep of the downtrodden Jags.
One key in establishing dominance in this series has been an absolute domination of Jags quarterback Blake Bortles. The Texans have gotten a pick six in their last three contests against the Jags, each of them instrumental in the Houston victory. In those games, he has thrown six interceptions overall.
With a non-existent running game and a porous offensive line, I imagine the Texans will be able to pressure Bortles easily, and force more mistakes.
On the other side of the ball, the Texans have been fairly one dimensional on offense this season with Lamar Miller carrying the team on his back most of the season. He has already gone over 1000 yards rushing and has 29 receptions as well. Against a fairly suspect Jacksonville run defense, Miller should be able to go over 100 yards on the ground.
All Brock Osweiler has to do to win this game is not turn the ball over. That should be fairly easy to accomplish against a team that has had a comically bad time forcing turnovers. This defense has been so bad at taking the ball away that even Osweiler shouldn’t have problems. I don’t care if he doesn’t throw for 100 yards again, just don’t let him screw it up. Heck, Bortles is more likely to throw a TD pass for the Texans than Osweiler is. But it won’t matter because other than some meltdown by the Texans, they will win in a romp.
Texans 31, Jaguars 13
