The Titans seem more than willing to trade the No. 1 draft pick
Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson said over the weekend that it would take “a king’s ransom” to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, but now he apparently wants the rest of the NFL to know that he might accept a prince’s ransom or something less.
"We’d be open to moving the pick. I think the statement I made the other day maybe got taken out of context a little bit with 'kings random'. ... The question was what would it take to move way back in the draft, which would take a lot of picks. ... I think some heard that I wasn’t open to moving, or we weren’t open to moving the pick, which is not true.”
Translation: The for sale sign is out on the top pick in the draft, a year after the Titans took quarterback Marcus Mariota second overall.
Most mock drafts have Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil going to Tennessee at No. 1. But draft history is filled with teams overpaying to get a quarterback with a high pick, and Tennessee’s dream scenario obviously involves getting a call from one of those. North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz and Cal’s Jared Goff are near the top of a lot of draft boards, so if you’re an NFL team that absolutely has to have one of those guys, the Titans have operators standing by.
