Time to Move Away From Blake Bortles, Play Brandon Allen Now

The Blake Bortles experience has not worked. It is time to move on with Brandon Allen as the new Jacksonville Jaguar quarterback.

Last weekend, the Jaguars made the change at offensive coordinator. Nathaniel Hackett called more running plays, which paid dividends but the scheme stayed the same. How many third and ones did Jacksonville line up in the gun? Bortles must not be able to line up under center?

Bortles has the propensity to throw the ball late and low. After three years, he has gotten worse and does not appear to be improving. Every game the Jaguars can expect a Bortles interception. Consequently, the Jaguars are playing from behind in each game. It is time for a change.

Bortles had good numbers in Kansas City but has good numbers when playing catch up. Bortles is ranked 38th with a quarterback rating of 80.3 – so how is winning possible? It’s time to make a change.

It’s time to play Brandon Allen

Allen is a different type of quarterback than Bortles. He is shorter than Bortles but he is quicker and faster. Exiting the combine, the report says, Allen is

(c)omfortable under center and is effective on bootlegs and rollouts. Good catch-and-run ball placement on crossing routes. Sneaky arm talent. Able to pump fake, reset and throw with accuracy. Swift setup in the pocket with a prompt release. Gets ball out in rhythm in rollouts. Rotates hips through throws for quality velocity. Arm to make NFL throws and has drive velocity and accuracy to challenge tight windows in middle of the field. Able to extend plays outside the pocket and find a throw or scramble for first downs.

Time has shown that Blake Bortles is not the guy to turn the Jaguars into a playoff contender. Now, Brandon Allen should be given a chance to run the offense.
