Titans bring back QB Alex Tanney
The knee injury that will sideline Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota for this week's game against the Houston Texans has prompted the Titans to bring back a familiar face for depth at the position.
According to Indianapolis head coach Chuck Pagano, the Titans claimed quarterback Alex Tanney off the Colts practice squad on Monday. Tanney spent training camp with the Titans before being released at the end of the preseason.
Tanney confirmed the move on Twitter.
Thanks to everyone in the Colts organization. Great teammates and coaches. But it feels good to be back in Nashville. #TitanUp

The 28-year-old Tanney will back up Zach Mettenberger against Houston. Mariota suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee during Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots and has already been ruled out of this week.
Tennessee interim head coach Mike Mularkey said Mariota wants to play in Tennessee's Jan. 3 season finale against the Indianapolis Colts and will be re-evaluated next week.
