Titans LT Lewan picks up game after losing captaincy
If Tennessee Titans interim coach Mike Mularkey was looking to send a message to left tackle Taylor Lewan by stripping Lewan of his role as a team captain, it seems to have worked.
ESPN's Paul Kuharsky, citing Pro Football Focus, notes that Lewan has allowed no sacks and just one quarterback hit in the four games since losing his captaincy after Tennessee's 20-6 loss to the Houston Texans on Nov. 1.
Mularkey said this week the second-year tackle has raised game in recent weeks, and done it in a low-key way.
“Taylor has quietly done a very nice job and no one has really said a lot about it,” Mularkey said, per ESPN. “I don’t think he's looking for that. I think he’s playing very good football for us in a lot of ways. We’re not having to chip as much and do things as much on his side as we are on the other side and a lot of that is because of the way Taylor has played. He's coming to work every day and doing the job we ask him to do.”
The 11th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Lewan has started all 11 games at left tackle for the Titans this season.
