Titans' rookie motivated by draft snub
Draft pundits, like every one else, are human. Sometimes, they're wrong.
In the case of Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver Tre McBride, they were very wrong.
McBride, who was projected to go somewhere between the third and fourth round in the 2015 NFL Draft, instead fell all the way to the seventh round, where the Titans took him with pick No. 245.
The result took McBride by surprise.
"I can't lie – there were tons of voices and articles and whatnot, saying they were so sure I was going to go somewhere (earlier)," McBride said, according to John Glennon of the Tennessean.
"I shouldn't have got caught up in it, but it's OK. It's nobody's fault. I'm here now and I'm happy."
And while McBride says he's pleased to be in Tennessee, he is approaching his rookie season with something to prove to the rest of the NFL.
"I don't want to play angry to a fault or anything," McBride said. "But I'm definitely going to use that as fuel to prove my worth here."
McBride, who is 6-0, 210-pounds, said he's prepared to do whatever it takes to win a roster spot with the Titans.
"I can play inside and outside, in the slot or as a single receiver, and I know all the positions that we've put in so far – not perfectly, but pretty well," McBride said. "On the other end, I can play any position on special teams. So even if there's not enough room (at wide receiver), I'm optimistic I can still hold a roster spot on the special teams and be valued as a kick returner, punt returner or gunner."
If all goes well, McBride may end up being known not as someone who was snubbed during the draft, but as a steal in seventh round.
