Todd Gurley is Alive, Breaks Free For 24-Yard Touchdown (Video)

This hasn’t been a banner sophomore season from Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, but the offensive line finally gave him a chance to let his talent shine.

As a rookie, Todd Gurley looked every bit the tenth overall pick in the draft, as the Los Angeles Rams running back put himself on the map as a legitimate NFL superstar. Gurley ran for over 1,100 yards on 229 carries, scoring ten rushing touchdowns in the process. He made few mistakes, fumbling just once and averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

In 2016, Gurley has found it much more difficult to find room to run, and some are beginning to wonder if he really is that special. Fellow 2015 first-round running back Melvin Gordon has been much more impressive behind equally poor blocking, and Gurley has just 515 rushing yards and 3.1 yards per carry on the season.

He did, however, boost his average today by scoring a 24-yard touchdown run to give the Rams a 7-0 lead over the Miami Dolphins in Jared Goff’s inaugural regular season start.

Gurley had a huge hole up the middle, and the Dolphins just didn’t have the right playcall on tap to stop this one from going for a first down. However, Gurley’s speed made it an even bigger gain, as he beat safety Michael Thomas in a footrace to the end zone.

If Gurley can have more runs like this, he can make Goff’s NFL debut against the Dolphins go smoothly. Gurley’s other run on that drive went for just two yards, and Goff was just 2-for-4 for 22 yards with completions to Kenny Britt and Tyler Higbee.
