Trevor Siemian on Track to Play For Denver Broncos

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Trevor Siemian is progressing well toward a return to the field.

Trevor Siemian, the Denver Broncos’ the seventh-round quarterback, played his best game in Week 12. In a 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, he threw for 368 yards, three, TDs and no INTs. The Broncos don’t usually give up 30 points in a game.

So it’s a good bet that the Broncos would at least hold onto the wildcard spot they still occupy. Then things got precarious as Siemian missed Denver’s Week 13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with a foot injury. The Broncos won that game without problems.

But the Broncos have to close the season with four tough games in a row. And the Miami Dolphins  are still lurking, just one game from the wildcard spot they’re sitting in. The good new is Siemian ditched a walking boot over the weekend and practiced in limited fashion Thursday.

That means he is on track to play against the Tennessee Titans, the first of four tough opponents Sunday. Rookie Paxton Lynch, who threw for just 104 yards in his second career start last week, is not yet ready. And Siemian was playing at a high level prior to the injury.

He started to throw the ball down the field with solid accuracy and good arm strength. So he threw two-plus touchdowns in his past three starts. Siemian’s mobility after the injury could be a factor Sunday as the Broncos offensive line isn’t the greatest right now.

They have struggled to protect the passer, allowing 33 sacks this season (27th in the NFL). The Titans have recorded 24 sacks since Week 5 (tied for second-most in that span). But still the Broncos have a better shot with Siemian at quarterback then without.
