Vontaze Burfict appears to intentionally step on Patriots player in coach's film
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has a reputation for pushing the limits of the rulebook and it appears as though he did it again Sunday against the Patriots.
Burfict appears to intentionally step on Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount after he scored in the first quarter of New England’s 35-17 win over Cincinnati. In coach’s footage obtained by ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Burfict appears to take two deliberate steps toward Blount, who reacts to the second one by pushing the controversial linebacker.
The NFL reportedly will review Burfict’s hit on Martellus Bennett’s knee in the same game. Bennett said Burfict apologized to him in the fourth quarter, saying the hit was an accident.
"Things happen in a game. It usually doesn't happen that way, but he apologized. He said he didn't try to do it," Bennett told reporters after the game. "It's part of the game."
Burfict has been fined $204,329 since breaking into the league in 2012.
