Washington Redskins Inactives Report: Jordan Reed Active, Will Compton Out

The Washington Redskins released their official inactives list ahead of their Monday night game against the Carolina Panthers.

There were a lot of questions about who would be active for the Washington Redskins this week. The team had as many as 10 players questionable leading up to the matchup with the Panthers, and few knew who would actually suit up. An hour and a half before game time, the team’s report was released by their official Twitter account.

There are a few major takeaways from this list.

The first is the least surprising. Both Su’a Cravens and Will Compton are going to be out for the game, leaving the Redskins shorthanded at linebacker. This was expected to be the case, and second year linebacker Martrell Spaight will make the start. Spaight will be an important player in this game, and it will be important for him to perform well.

The next important element is that Jordan Reed will be active for the contest. He played just 10 snaps against the Eagles last week, but his separated shoulder is continuing to heal. Perhaps the extra day of rest will allow him to play a bigger role in this contest.

One of the biggest takeaways from this list is that Kory Lichtensteiger is a healthy scratch. Starting center Spencer Long had recovered from a concussion, so the team was going to have to deactivate one of their interior linemen. The team has chosen to go with John Sullivan and Arie Kouandjio as their backups, leaving Lichtensteiger as the odd man out. This will likely continue to be the trend, and Lichtensteiger’s time with the Redskins could soon come to a close.

Other than that, there are not a whole lot of surprises. The same “core four” are on this list in Nate Sudfeld, Matt Jones, Vinston Painter, and Rashad Ross. Those four have been a staple on this list in recent weeks, and they will likely continue to sit in the future. They have simply been outplayed the other players the Redskins have at their positions.
