Watch Raiders QB Derek Carr flip over a defender for a first down
It’s not often you see a quarterback go airborne for a first down unless his name is Cam Newton. However, Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders is trying to buck that trend.
Facing a third-and-9 from his own 26-yard line Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Carr took off after eluding a sack and raced toward the first-down marker. Rather than ducking out of bounds, though, Carr went airborne, flipping over a defender for a first down.

Run. Flip. First Down. WILD. #OAKvsNO https://t.co/N7V4IugCeO
Carr isn’t as athletic as Newton or Marcus Mariota, but he showed off his wheels and leaping ability on this play.
Though his flip extended the drive, it didn’t lead to any points. The Raiders were forced to punt a few plays later.
