Watch Titans QB Marcus Mariota throw an unforgivable pick 6 vs. the Vikings
The talk all week was about who would start at quarterback for the Vikings, but it was the quarterback on the other team who helped Minnesota finally score its first touchdown of the season Sunday.
The Vikings -- struggling on offense with Shaun Hill filling in at QB until newly acquired Sam Bradford is ready to take over -- trailed the Titans 10-6 in the third quarter when Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota allowed Minnesota to score on an unforgivable pick 6. Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks took an attempted screen pass 77 yards the other way for a touchdown and a 12-10 Minnesota lead.
Everyone expected that Minnesota’s defense would keep the Vikings in games until Bradford could become an effective replacement for Teddy Bridgewater, who is out for the season with a serious knee injury. That scenario was already playing out in the season opener.
Later in the game, the Vikings returned a muffed handoff by Mariota 24 yards for a touchdown. It's the first time Minnesota has returned an interception and fumble for a touchdown in the same game since 1995.
Before today, the last time the #Vikings had a FR TD (C. Fuller) and an INT return TD (O. Thomas) in the same game was 9/24/95 @ PIT.
