Zach Ertz reportedly won't play against Chicago Bears

Zach Ertz won’t play against Bears, per report.

One of Carson Wentz‘s favorite targets in Week 1 was tight end Zach Ertz, but the rookie QB may have to find another favorite target in Week 2.

Ertz suffered a displaced rib in the Eagles’ home opener against the Cleveland Browns Sunday. The injury is not expected to be serious, but reports indicate that it will keep Ertz from playing against the Chicago Bears next Monday night.

Losing Ertz isn’t ideal for the Eagles. Ertz is one of Philadelphia’s top offensive playmakers and slightly underrated as a blocker as well. He and Wentz connected six times for 58 yards Sunday.

With Ertz likely out against the Bears, Wentz will need to find another go-to receiver. Luckily, Wentz was just as productive throwing wideout Jordan Matthews Sunday, but he seems to like throwing to his tight ends.

Brent Celek isn’t quite the playmaking tight end he was earlier in his career, but is a good backup for Ertz. If Trey Burton can play Monday night, that would really help alleviate the loss of Ertz. Burton looked tremendous all summer and would be a great weapon for Wentz.
