After quiet summer, Chara hoping for consistency from Bruins
Zdeno Chara struggled with injuries through most of the 2014-15 season, so it makes sense that the defenseman stayed quiet over the summer. Chara said in a recent interview with NHL.com that he did not do much traveling, instead choosing to take it easy to gear up for the 2015-16 season.
But while Chara took it easy, the team's front office kept busy, trading away Dougie Hamilton and Milan Lucic in an effort to shake up a roster which put forth an unsatisfactory effort last season. Chara, who was a captain for the Bruins through all of Lucic's eight seasons with the team, said changes were necessary considering the Bruins did not live up to expectations last year.
"It's tough to see guys being gone, but we all saw management announce that they were making changes to try and improve the team," Chara said to NHL.com. "The most frequent word that came out of last season was 'inconsistency.' It's what we have to work on; we can't have ups and downs."
The Bruins will need consistency and health from Chara; the team has yet to find a replacement for Dougie Hamilton, meaning an aging blue line looks a bit thin heading into the season.
