Agent: Kruger will be patient with Blackhawks

Fourth-line center Marcus Kruger is willing to play the waiting game while the Chicago Blackhawks clear space under the salary cap.

"We will be patient," Kruger's agent, J.P. Barry, told the Chicago Tribune in an email as the Blackhawks crunch the numbers of their salary situation. Barry also informed the newspaper that the restricted free agent "will have no choice later in August but to do a shorter deal."

Kruger didn't file for arbitration in the hope of trying to gain a long-term contract with Chicago. The Blackhawks are approximately $400,000 over the $71.4 million salary, per war-on-ice, and are able to remain a maximum of 10 percent over during the offseason.

Kruger collected seven goals and 10 assists while playing in 81 regular-season games for the Blackhawks last season. The 25-year-old Swede had two of each in 23 postseason contests as Chicago went on to win its third Stanley Cup title in six seasons.
