Alexa Ray Joel to sing national anthem at Isles' opener
The New York Islanders are keeping it within the "family" when they open the 2015-16 season at the Barclays Center on Friday.
After the legendary Billy Joel played the last concert at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in August, his daughter Alexa Ray will sing the national anthem prior to the Islanders' game against the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks.
"I'm so happy and honored to be singing the national anthem to kick off the hockey season!" the 29-year-old Joel said in a statement on the team's website. "It's all about representing the home team (Go Islanders!) and, of course, New York Pride.
"I feel like, being my father's daughter, I'm keeping the legacy in the family."
The Islanders spent their first 43 years playing at the Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., before changing their address to Brooklyn to begin this season.
