Arizona Coyotes' Oliver Ekman-Larsson Stars For Sweden

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Team Sweden lost in overtime, but Arizona Coyotes’ defender Oliver Ekman-Larsson shined for Tre Kronor.

The initial round of exhibitions for the World Cup of Hockey did not go as planned for the four Arizona Coyotes attendees.

All four players were on the losing end of their contests, though Martin Hanzal did get a lucky deflected goal in Czech Republic’s showdown with Russia.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson led the Swedes in time on ice and looked particularly sharp. He also scored a goal that was later overturned.

It was good to see the Coyotes’ franchise centerpiece on the ice again.

Tobias Rieder’s Team Europe squad was trounced by the “young guns” from Team North America, 4-0.

As we expressed on Twitter, North America’s gameplan seems to be very simple; go go go! It’s a joy to watch.

Team USA squares off with Canada later today at 7 PM EST on ESPNU and ESPN3.

It’s just an exhibition but I’m positive spirits, emojiis, and exclamation points will be high.
