Blackhawks' Kane on streak: 'Definitely fun while it lasted'
Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane knew that his franchise-best point streak had to end at some point.
It did at 26 games on Tuesday as Kane and the Blackhawks failed to solve Semyon Varlamov in a 3-0 setback to the Central Division-rival Colorado Avalanche. The 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy winner was quick to tell reporters that - while grueling at times - the streak brought about plenty of happiness.
Kane scored 16 goals and set up 24 others during his streak, which was the longest since Mats Sundin's 30-game run in 1992-93. Kane eclipsed the 18-game runs of Eddie Olczyk (1989-90) and Phil Kessel (2008-09) for the longest by an American and Bobby Hull's 21-game stretch in 1971-72 for the franchise record.
Wayne Gretzky's 51-game streak (1983-84) is the NHL record that was being chased by Kane, who will look to start a new run on Thursday when the Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers.
