Blue Jackets rout Canadiens in record-setting win
The Columbus Blue Jackets ended the Montreal Canadiens’ eight-game win streak in historic fashion on Friday night.
For the hometown Blue Jackets, that meant a franchise-record 10 goals in the win, with 16 of 18 skaters recording points—also a club mark. Alexander Wennberg racked up four assists and Cam Atkinson, Josh Anderson, Scott Hartnell and Nick Foligno each tallied two goals.
A five-goal second period matched the Columbus record for scores in a period, though Wennberg had a potential sixth disallowed after the puck went in off his skate.
Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 shots for his third shutout of the season and 15th of his career, making the game the 35th 10–0 shutout in NHL history and first since the Calgary Flames trounced the Tampa Bay Lightning by that margin on Jan. 2, 1996. At the other end of the ice, Al Montoya was stuck in net for all 10 goals against, after having given up just six in his first four games of the season.

The shellacking was the Habs’ worst since suffering an 11–1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Dec. 2, 1995, a game during which All-Star goalie Patrick Roy asked to be traded.
In the loss, Montreal’s first in regulation on the season, the team tied a franchise mark for consecutive goals against, with Montreal last giving up 10 straight in Detroit on Apr. 1, 1942. It also almost matched the 13 total goals the Canadiens had allowed in 10 games coming in.
