The Buffalo Sabres now have four players on four separate teams for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey!
Buffalo Sabres fans, you now have one more reason to watch the 2016 World Cup of Hockey when it begins on Saturday, September 17.
Yesterday, Team Canada announced that it would be adding the Sabres very own Ryan O’Reilly to its roster for the WCH. The Factor will replace Tyler Seguin, who was injured during pre-tournament play and will be heading to Dallas in time for training camp.

O’Reilly joins Jack Eichel (Team North America), Ramus Ristolainen (Team Finland), and Dmitry Kulikov (Team Russia) as players who will be representing the Buffalo Sabres in the 2016 World Cup.
ROR already has some international tournament play to his credit this summer. He helped team Canada win it all at the 2016 Ice Hockey World Championship that was held in Russia. O’Reilly finished the IIHFs tied for 13th in assists, 19th in faceoff percentage, and tied for 9th in +/-. Losing Seguin clearly deprives Canada of one of the game’s most dynamic goal scorers, but O’Reilly should be able to step in and make Canada better in other areas.
Buffalo Sabres fans who were worried about the “I” word when it comes to Eichel are now probably double-worried about Ryan O’Reilly. Of course, it’s not like The Factor will be the only player in the NHL to participate in not one, but two international tournaments during the offseason. Still, who cares about players from other NHL teams? It would suck if O’Reilly’s 2016-17 season winds up being negatively affected because of the wear-and-tear of playing so much during these tournaments. Enjoy watching him play, and cross your fingers!
