Canadiens send P.K. Subban to Predators for Shea Weber in blockbuster deal

The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenseman P.K. Subban to Nashville in exchange for longtime Predators defenseman Shea Weber, the teams announced Wednesday.

The Canadiens had been reportedly shopping Subban due to a no-trade clause in the superstar's contract that kicks in July 1. He is entering the third year of an eight-year, $72 million deal. The 27-year-old Subban scored six goals and added 45 assists in 68 games last season for Montreal.

Weber, who has 10 years remaining on a 14-year, $81 million deal he signed in 2012, scored 20 goals and added 31 assists in 78 games as the Predators' captain last season.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin released a statement following the official announcement of the trade:
