Capitals D Brooks Orpik has wrist surgery, sidelined 2 weeks
Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik had wrist surgery on Tuesday morning.
The Capitals press release stated that Orpik will be ready for the start of the regular season, and that he will return to "full workout activities" in just two weeks.
Last season, Orpik played in 78 games in his first year with the Capitals. Orpik signed a five-year, $27.75 million contract with the Capitals in July 2014.
Orpik is the second Capital to go under the knife during the offseason. Forward Nicklas Backstrom had arthroscopic hip surgery earlier this summer.
Orpik, 34, played alongside John Carlson as the Capitals top defense pairing last season. That is expected to continue, especially if Orpik is in fact able to participate in full workout activities in mid-August.
The Capitals season opener is Oct. 10, at home, against the New Jersey Devils.
