The Capitals have signed defenseman Ryan Stanton to a one-year, two-way contract.

The 26-year-old had spent the last two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, appearing in 119 total games.

Stanton could provide a veteran presence to the AHL's Hershey Bears, playing alongside the Capitals young talent in Madison Bowey, Tyler Lewington and Christian Djoos.

Stanton is the second defensemen the Capitals have added this offseason with NHL experience. Stanton could be included into the mix for the third defensive pairing for the Capitals. It's a race between he, Dmitry Orlov, Nate Schmidt and new arrival Taylor Chorney, though the other three have the upper-hand with one-way deals.

Stanton finished this season with the Canucks with 11 points and 35 penalty minutes.
