Carolina Hurricanes Begin Arriving in Raleigh for Voluntary Skates
As we near the start of the preseason, informal skates are beginning in Raleigh. International players are returning to town, and local players are coming back to the rink. Hockey is almost here!
Carolina Hurricanes players started arriving at Raleigh Center Ice at the end of August, but as the season nears more familiar faces are arriving. The first three players to arrive were Cam Ward, Jaccob Slavin, and prospect Trevor Carrick.
The original three have been in town working with assistant coach Rod Brind’Amour and strength coach Bill Burniston. It is good seeing players both young and old dedicating themselves in the offseason to improving their play.
Jaccob Slavin Working to Stay in NHL
Slavin is coming off of a breakout year, one which saw him start in the minors and end as a defensive mainstay. Instead of resting on his laurels, Slavin is right back in the rink working on skating and his offensive abilities.
Knowing that he is still facing competition from other young defensemen, including top picks Haydn Fleury and Jake Bean, Slavin has taken every minute to improve himself. The 22 year old has worked hard to put on weight and make sure he keeps a spot with the Carolina Hurricanes next season.
Victor Rask Joins Teammates in Raleigh
The trio has excitedly welcomed the latest arrival to town, Victor Rask. This preseason will be an important one for the young swede. This offseason has been a mixed bag for Rask, who singed a new contract, but also went under the scalpel for shoulder surgery.
During the final games of last season a shoulder injury inhibited his arm movements and prevented one-timers and slap shots. After a summer of surgery and rehab, the 23 year old is back to 100%. He now looks to come into camp to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to an offensive revival.
Now he now comes into Raleigh looking to regain his form from the 2015-2016 season. Rask was not named to a World Cup of Hockey roster, so he will have plenty of time to ease into hockey and the strains it puts on the body.
More Carolina Hurricanes will start arriving in Raleigh every day now, including prospects and hopefuls. With the season just around the corner fans and players will be buzzing with the hope and opportunities that come with a new season.
