The Avalanche had signed Skille to a professional tryout contract earlier this offseason. Skille played in five preseason games for the Avalanche, finishing with a goal and an assist.

The former 2005 first-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks will join his fourth career NHL team in the Colorado Avalanche this season.

Colorado has also announced that forward Dennis Everberg was loaned to the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. With forward Jesse Winchester and the signing of Skille, the Avalanche's roster stands at 23 total players.

Colorado opens up their season this Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
