Crosby, MacKinnon visit 7-year-old boy with leukemia
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Colorado Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon did their best to brighten the spirits of a 7-year-old boy who is battling leukemia.
One day after surprising patrons at a Tim Hortons' drive-thru window, the two natives of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, opted to pay a visit to Dartmouth to visit Bryan Carroll on Wednesday.
Since Carroll spends most of his time with friends in the backyard, volunteers spruced it up with materials that were donated by local businesses. A fire pit, hammock and other lawn furniture were added to go along with a chest of Legos, water guns and toys while the family was away on a scheduled train trip.
When the family returned, it saw the new additions as well as both Crosby and MacKinnon, who spent time with the Carrolls. The hockey stars chatted with the family, took in the new look of the backyard and attempted to get out of harm's way in the impromptu water-gun fight.
"To come home to this, it's fantastic," father Sean Carroll said. "It just means it's something that I don't have to worry about anymore. My son, that's what's most important (and) enjoying the time we have left with him."
