Dallas Stars Find Themselves Near Top Of EA Ranks Again

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

EA Sports will hit the shelves on Tuesday, November 13th, and it promises to be another step forward in the video game franchise. Where do some of the stronger Dallas Stars players fall in the rankings?

In ten days, EA Sports will release their newest edition to the NHL franchise, NHL 17.

Some amazing new features have been added, if you did not already know but still care nonetheless. Be A GM now gives the player a complete grasp on every aspect of an organization. A new game mode called Draft Champions gives you the ultimate chance at a fantasy draft. New celebrations and net battles and new tools to use make it the most diverse NHL game yet.

But how are the players going to be ranked? More specifically, where will the Dallas Stars land?

EA Sports typically releases the top ten players overall in every position before they release the game, and this year was no different.

This time last season, the Dallas Stars had three players in the respective top ten groups. Jamie Benn was towards the top of Top Ten left wingers. Patrick Sharp was ranked tenth in the right wing category. And finally, Tyler Seguin was towards the top in the centers group.

This season, things look a bit different. First of all, the Stars only have two players representing them. Those two are Benn and Seguin (basically the players that everyone thinks of when they hear “Dallas Stars”). Sharp is not mentioned in the top ten. John Klingberg also missed out on a top ten spot on defense.

But the two Stars received a lot of love from the game. First off, Seguin is ranked as the seventh overall center in the game with a rating of 92. He has a five-star rating in Puck Skills, Senses, Shooting, and Skating. He is also ranked 21st overall in all NHL players.

Meanwhile, Jamie Benn made a sizable jump in the rankings, as he should have. Benn is now the top left wing in the game with an overall record of 94. He is the second highest player in the game, landing only behind Sidney Crosby. Benn is also the only player in the entire game to get five stars in Puck Skills, Shooting, Senses, Skating, Defense, and Physical.

In other words, EA Sports is not worried to admit that Benn is the complete package. It’s just how these things go.

But it is surprising that Klingberg, Sharp, and Jason Spezza all missed out on some of the top rankings, especially Klingberg. We won’t even begin to ask about goaltending.

All in all, it’s cool to see Jamie Benn getting the respect he finally deserves. If you have not already planned to, go and buy NHL 17. You won’t be disappointed, and it won’t take a miracle to win with Dallas anymore.
