Dallas Stars Injury Woes Continue, Ales Hemksy Headed to IR

NHL Injuries: Dallas Stars F Ales Hemsky Heads to IR. With injuries mounting to veteran forwards, what type of impact does that have on Dallas Stars’ overall depth?

The Dallas Stars just cannot seem to stay healthy. Head Coach Lindy Ruff was finally able to get a veteran presence back in the lineup on Saturday with 33-year-old forward Ales Hemsky, who suffered an injury at the World Cup of Hockey. The bad news. His return didn’t last long as Hemsky was placed back on the IR list after re-aggravating a groin injury.

Though a timetable is not yet set for his recovery, the placement of Hemsky on IR, along with the list of what seems the entire Dallas Stars lineup, could prove detrimental to a postseason run.

With the loss already of Mattias Janmark (knee), Patrick Sharp (concussion), Cody Eakin (knee), Jiri Hudler (flu), and Patrick Eaves (lower-body), the Stars are going to certainly going to need their veteran forwards to pull some serious weight. The likes of Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and John Klingberg will not be enough to push the team forward through a harsh Central Division.

Depth forwards like Brett Ritchie (2 points), Gemel Smith (1 point), Devin Shore (4 points), and Adam Cracknell (3 points), are certainly making their marks on the lineup this year with the injuries forcing them to play tough minutes early in the season.

With the loss of Hemsky to the squad, Stars fans could see 26-year-old forward prospect Justin Dowling sooner than later. Dowling currently has 8 points in 5 games for the Texas Stars and could provide a bit of extra scoring depth that the Stars can use on a nightly basis.

With games coming up against Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames, the Dallas Stars will certainly need to shine bright to keep themselves involved in what should be a tough Central Division race.
