Dallas Stars Media Day Updates Before Training Camp
The NHL regular season is just around the corner, but training camp and the preseason must occur first. Here are some updates from the Dallas Stars media day today regarding the next few days ahead.
The Dallas Stars hosted their yearly media day today over in Frisco. The day was used to congregate all the Stars players that are not participating in the World Cup and film promotional ads and take pictures for the upcoming season.
It was also an opportunity for the media to catch up with some of the players after a longer-than-wanted offseason. With a new season just around the corner, it’s obvious that players are ready to hit the ice and pick up where they left off last season.
It’s no surprise that this annual media day is usually filled with a lot of information, hype, and overall fun.

Seriously, he has a picture of Kari Lehtonen as a piece of bread and pictures of cavemen (or maybe it’s Jordie Benn and Patrick Eaves). You don’t want to miss it.
Also, there was a bit of excitement fluttering around as the Stars community got a first look at Jiri Hudler in Victory Green.
The newest Star signed with Dallas on August 24th on a one-year, $2 million deal. Many questioned why Stars GM Jim Nill signed Hudler in the first place. With a firepower offense already in the mix and a number of talented prospect forwards looking to move up this season, there really wasn’t any need to add another veteran to the group.
But this past Tuesday, Nill’s reasoning became clear and turned into a genius acquisition (shocker).
Valeri Nichushkin signed with a team in the KHL for two years, meaning that the 21-year-old will abandon his NHL career, at least for the next two seasons. Apparently he does not want to play under head coach Lindy Ruff and wants a new coach before he returns. Considering Ruff has the Stars on the bright side of success right now, it does not look like he will be escorted from the bench boss position anytime soon.
So now Hudler will fill the void spectacularly. Here is the picture of the newest Star in his new color of choice.

There were also some updates from Nill about World Cup players and injuries. They can be found below.
No World Cup players will skate at training camp
The Dallas Stars sent four players (Tyler Seguin, Ales Hemsky, Radek Faksa, Esa Lindell) to the World Cup this year. Seguin ended up being their only Team Canada representative, and he did not last long. After developing an injury in a preliminary game against the USA, he was sent home for further examination.
Meanwhile, Esa Lindell and Team Finland did not find fortune on their side. They lost their first two games and were quickly eliminated from the tournament. In today’s interviews, Nill said that Lindell nor any other World Cup player will skate at training camp. They will simply join the team on Monday at regular practice.
Radek Faksastill day-to-day
After enduring an unnecessary hit from Ryan Getzlaf in the World Cup, Stars forward Radek Faksa will sit out of Team Czech Republic’s game today. He still has concussion-like symptoms, but will remain at the tournament for now.
Tyler Seguin will not skate in training camp
Lastly and perhaps the biggest news of the day is the fact that superstar forward Tyler Seguin will not skate in Cedar Park. After being diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his heel, Seguin was considered week-to-week and will be reevaluated on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The last thing Dallas needs is for him to be out an extended period of time (especially at the start of the season), so keeping him out and healthy is definitely the best option.
