Dallas Stars' Tyler Seguin Plagued with Bad Luck Injuries
Since coming to Dallas in 2013, Tyler Seguin has been caught in a web of painful, long-term injuries more than once.
Dallas Stars centerman Tyler Seguin has been in the NHL for six years, but has sustained a number of rather bizarre and untimely injuries.
Those ailments have prevented the now 24-year-old from participating in rather important opportunities throughout his career. It’s disappointing, considering Seguin’s rather unbelievable skill set, that he hasn’t been able to fully partake in everything he’s been invited to.
His string of bad luck with injuries struck again this week as a foot injury will keep him sidelined from representing Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey.
Throughout his three seasons in Dallas No. 91 has been the focus of a lot of attention, a good deal relating to his time spent in the press box.
Concussion-Like Symptoms: December 2013
Seguin’s injuries began only a few months into his campaign with the Dallas Stars. He suffered muscle strains from a hit in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. A few days later the doctors discovered the centerman was experiencing concussion-like symptoms.
He was sidelined for only two games until he returned to action, but nonetheless the time spent out of the line-up still impacted the Stars.
MCL Tear: February 2015
The injury resulted in Seguin missing nearly a month of play during a crucial time in the Stars’ season. The team was in a playoff push and could have really used the offensive contributions of a skilled player like Tyler Seguin. Dallas ultimately fell short of their goal to return to the postseason and finished 10th in the Western Conference.
Achilles: Spring 2016
In his most recent injury fiasco, Seguin was involved in a rather strange incident toward the end of a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. As Seguin was in the defensive zone he went to the boards to challenge the Lightning’s point man. In what can only be described as a freak accident, his right Achilles tendon was cut by the skate of his opposition.
The injury was once again untimely as Seguin and the Stars were in a rather close battle for the Central Division title. Dallas ended up capturing the No. 1 spot in the division despite his absence, though. He returned to play in April for one game against the Minnesota Wild in Round One, but the strain of NHL play once again hurt his Achilles and left him to watch the remainder of Dallas’ playoff run.
Current Injury and Moving Forward
Now Seguin has a foot injury that originally circulated as a knee injury. Mark Stepneski of the Dallas Stars’ Official Website tweeted this to clarify the confusion regarding the injury:
As far as the future, though, Seguin will rebound from this injury and be fully focused on Dallas Stars hockey. The Stars are aiming to build on last season and find themselves in a deep playoff run come May and June.
Seguin will need to be healthy for that to happen. He and the Stars will do everything in their power to make that goal the reality.
