David Krejci: Leading NHL in points is 'not my goal'
Bruins fans can stop complaining about not having a scorer like Tyler Seguin, as Boston center David Krejci is currently tied with Seguin (and Stars' forward Jamie Benn) for the NHL lead in points. Krejci has 12 tallies (five goals, seven assists) in seven games.
But Krejci is not necessarily intent on staying at the top of the leading scorers board in the NHL.
"It’s not my goal to be on top [of the NHL lead in points]," Krejci told reporters. "I don’t even want to be the leading scorer, to be honest. I just want to win games with my team.
"It’s always fun to come back next day at practice, it’s a good atmosphere and everybody is happy. That makes the job so much easier. As long as we keep winning that’s all that matters. It’s just numbers, and it’s just stats. Too many people just look at the stats. At the end of the day, if we win the game … if we win the Cup … who cares?"
Wins have been harder for the Bruins to come by than points for Krejci. The team is 3-3-1 and ranks second-to-last in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins still don't have a win at home, and the struggling defense and problematic goaltending have been bigger storylines early in Boston than Krejci's production.
But a few more points than normal will surely be welcomed by this Bruins team, as Boston needs all the goals it can get since it has only allowed fewer than three goals against once so far this season.
