Despite outcome, Ottawa remains proud of Senators

These Ottawa Senators barely had a chance of making the playoffs in February, and although the team was playing Atlantic Division champion Montreal in the first round, the Senators made an entertaining series out of the match-up.

But Ottawa fell just short in Game 6, falling 2-0 to the Canadiens and likely Vezina Trophy-winner Carey Price to end Ottawa's season. That made for many fans disappointed by a loss but in no way disappointed by their team. Ottawa Citizen writer Noah Lefevre made note of the reaction in his end-of-season piece.

"In the end, however, neither faith nor cheering were enough," Lefevre wrote. "The disappointment was clear in the downtrodden faces of the crowd as the final seconds ticked off after the Habs buried an empty-net goal. Yet, after the buzzer sounded, the Sens were able to bring the crowd to their feet one more time. As the team gathered at centre ice to salute their fans for the season, they were met with a roaring standing ovation."
