The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Philadelphia Flyers this evening from Philadelphia.
The Detroit Red Wings need a spark, desperately. After winning six games in a row following an 0-2 start, Detroit is currently on a five game losing streak and searching for answers. Finding an answer tonight may be a difficult task for the Red Wings as they head to the Wells Fargo Center to take on the Philadelphia Flyers – a place where they have not fared well of late.
The Red Wings current losing streak has left Detroit coach Jeff Blashill a bit puzzled, and according to a Freep.com report, Blashill is hoping the spark they are looking for will come from a 21-year-old rookie.
The Red Wings made the decision to call up prospect Tyler Bertuzzi from the Grand Rapids Griffins for tonight’s battle against the Flyers. While it has to be a dream come true for Bertuzzi, you know he will have some butterflies as he makes his NHL debut.
“When Tyler is playing his best, he is on the puck a lot, he’s got a good reach and stick-on-puck, so he creates turnovers,” Wings coach Jeff Blashill said today. “He finds a way to hard areas of the ice. He can shoot the puck from in tight areas, finds a way to score in tight areas and gets to the net hard. “He’s a guy who finds his way to greasy-type goals. We need more of that, and we’re hoping he can bring it to us.”
Bertuzzi was drafted by the Red Wings 58th overall in 2013.
The good news for the Wings heading into tonight’s matchup is they will be facing one of the NHL’s worst teams defensively so far in the 2016 season. Philadelphia has let the opponent lite the lamp all to often so far as they have allowed the second-most goals in the league, giving up a whopping 3.69 goals per game average.
Only the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes have a worse GAA than the Flyers so far this season.
Las Vegas odds makers have the Flyers listed as the favorite at -140, with the over/under goal total set at 5.5.
