Devils' Cammalleri on loss of Lamoriello: 'Change might just be refreshing'
New Jersey Devils veteran left wing Mike Cammalleri is entertaining an optimistic outlook for the upcoming season as the team adjusts to playing without former general manager Lou Lamoriello.
"I have a lot of respect for Lou and a lot of the things he does," Cammalleri told NJ.com. "I really believe in the philosophy, but the change might just be refreshing. If we win and end up where we want to be, I guess you'd call it good. I wouldn't call it good or bad."
Ray Shero replaced Lamoriello as the team's general manager in May, with the latter being named to the same position with the Toronto Maple Leafs two months later. The Devils also hired coach John Hynes in June as the team attempts to end a three-year postseason drought.
Cammalleri recorded a team-leading 27 goals and 15 assists in 68 games with New Jersey last season. The 33-year-old has opted to change his jersey from No. 23 to 13, becoming the first player to wear that number for the Devils.
